BODYWORK

The health system we follow at Wei Wu Zen combines a variety of eastern wellness therapies. Clients who come in for sessions may get a variety of treatments, depending on their conditions. We practice massage, acupuncture, acupressure, qi gong therapy, ayurveda, and chakra clearing.

In order to understand how practices such as acupuncture and acupressure work, one must first understand how the body functions energetically in accord to alternative thought. Most alternative and eastern wellness modalities view the human being as more than just the physical, but also an energetic and cosmic entity. They describe a system of energetic pathways that connects each and every part of the body. Energy, or qi (pronounced chi) flows along these pathways. Qi is the energy that sustains us; it allows us to move, to digest, to breathe, to live.

Every organ and tissue in the body is interconnected, and each process of the body depends on the proper movement of qi through the body. If an organ, or system in the body is not functioning properly, this disrupts the qi flow, which in turn causes symptoms of illness or pain. All health problms are due to an imbalance or qi disharmony, be it caused by injury, a pathogen, or a dysfunction of one of the vital organs.

Qi flow can be affected and restored by inserting needles, by pressing on specific points on the body, or through focused breath using direct or indirect qi harmonizing (called qi gong). Accordingly, practices such as acupuncture and qi gong work by directing and or supporting the flow of qi through the body.
